Can I export my data from another program into 1099 Pro?

Data can be exported from almost every third party software in an Excel or delimited format. To do this, create an export in the software that contains all of your data that you wish to import into 1099 Pro. Include all of the necessary fields that would be reported to the IRS; name, address, tin, dollar amount, etc.

Export to Excel, delimited, CSV, or TAB file which can then be mapped and imported into 1099 Pro software.

How do I activate the demo?

To purchase the software, visit our website or call 888-776-1099 to speak with a representative. Once you have made your purchase, an authorization code will be sent to you.

Once you have recieved your authorization code, run your software and go to "Utilities" and "Registration and Upgrades", and enter your code.

How do I backup my data?

Close your software open the windows Start menu, located at the bottom left of your desktop. Go to All Programs and open your 1099 Pro program file. Click on Check for 1099 Pro Updates.

How do I transfer my data and custom maps from a previous version of the software?

During the installation wizard, you will be given the option to roll your previous import maps, as well as recipient and filer information into the new install.

Note, the roll forward feature will not bring forward any of your financial data. Rather, it is intended to save you the trouble of reentering all of your recipient and filer contact information, as well as your security settings and transmitter information.

How do I transfer my data from my old computer to my new computer?

The following insructions will explain how to update your old computer's 1099 Pro software to the most recent version, backup your data, then restore that information on your new computer. If you are unsure how to complete any of these steps, please refer to Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Step 1: Update
Run an software update on your old computer to ensure your software is up-to-date. Once your update is complete, back up your data.

Step 2: Backup
Upon running the data backup wizard, a date and time stamped backup zip file will be stored in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Pro99Txx\Data Backups

Step 3: Restore
On your new computer, download the same version/year of 1099 Pro software that you were using on your old computer, and run an update. Once the web update is done, unzip the backup file into the following location:

C:\Program Files\Pro99Txx\Data

When the software asks you if you want to overwrite the existing files, click on "Yes to All", and continue to complete the wizard. You information has now been trnasferred!

How do I update my software?

To check for updates:
1. Close your 1099 Pro software.
2. On your Windows desktop click "Start", "Programs", "1099 Pro 20XX" and "Check for 1099 Pro Updates".
3. After downloading any files click the "Finish" button. The Wise Installation Wizard opens automatically to install the update files.

Alternate Method:
Visit host.1099pro.com to download updates, patches, or the most updated copy of 1099 Pro software.

How do I upload to the Service Bureau to print, mail, efile, or Bulk TIN match?

  • Printing & Mailing Upload:
    Once you have imported your records, click on Via the Service Burea under the 2nd step, "Printing & Mailing", located to the left of your screen. Click on the Printing & Mailing or E-Delivery Upload button located at the top of your screen to initiate a helpful Wizard that will guide you through the upload process. On the last screen, click on Finish to print your Control Totals report. Review an sign your report. Back in your software, highlight your pending upload, and click on the Complete Pending Upload option located at the bottom of the screen to send your upload to the Service Burea. Fax/email your Control Totals and cover sheet to sb@1099pro.com to confirm that you are ready for the Service Bureau to print and mail your records!

  • Electronic Filing Upload:
    When you are ready to upload your records to the IRS or SSA, click on Electronic Filing under the 3rd step, "Filing My Forms", located to the left of your screen. Click on the Filing with the IRS Upload button located at the top of your screen to initiate a helpful Wizard that will guide you through the upload process. On the last screen, click on Finish to print your Control Totals report. Review an sign your report. Back in your software, highlight your pending upload, and click on the Complete Pending Upload option located at the bottom of the screen to send your upload to the Service Burea. Fax/email your Control Totals and cover sheet to sb@1099pro.com to confirm that you are ready for the Service Bureau to electronically file your records!

  • Bulk TIN Upload:
    To run a Bulk TIN match using the Service Bureau, click on Via the Service Burea under the 2nd step, "Printing & Mailing", located to the left of your screen. Click on the Bulk TIN Matching Upload button located at the top of your screen to initiate a helpful Wizard that will guide you through the upload process. On the last screen, click on Finish to print your Control Totals report. Review an sign your report. Back in your software, highlight your pending upload, and click on the Complete Pending Upload option located at the bottom of the screen to send your upload to the Service Burea. Fax/email your Control Totals and cover sheet to sb@1099pro.com to confirm that you are ready for the Service Bureau to check your TINs!

How do I view my rolled over recipient data?

Open your software and click on the Recipients List option located near the bottom left of yhe screen. This Screen will list all of your recipient information. Also, while entering data manually into any form, press the F2 key or right-click in the Recipient Identification Number box.

I lost my CD, can I download the software?

Absolutely! Go to http://host.1099pro.com/ftp/product/ Follow the link to the tax year of your software and to the product that you are using. Save the .exe file that you find to your desktop. Double click on the file to start the installation process. You will need your authorization code. If you don't have your code, you will need to call 888-776-1099 or send us an email at cs@1099pro.com and we'll be happy to give it to you.


I need to file electronically with the state of Michigan -- can 1099 Pro support this?

The state of Michigan requires electronic filing in the MMREF-1 (W-2) format. We do have a way of handling this. Please contact our Service Bureau with any questions at 866-444-3559. For additional information on Michigan filing, click here.


I want my Data to Reside in a Different Location (single user, accessible by multiple workstations)

This document actually incorporates two different tasks. The first is a single-user install with the data residing in a remote location, usually on a PC that is backed up on a regular basis. The second is setting up multiple single user installations to use the same data, but only allowing one person to access the data at a time. Part One, Remote Data Location: 1. This document assumes you are doing a fresh install of 20XX software. If you already had a 20XX version of 1099 Pro/1042-S/W2-Pro installed then you must do a complete uninstall, including deleting the appropriate .ini file. There is a support document to help you uninstall, if necessary. 2. Start the install process for the 20XX version of 1099 Pro/1042-S/W2-Pro. At the first installation screen, click on "Next." 3. Enter your authorization code and click on "Next." (Entering DEMO will not work) 4. Read the Readme file and click on "Next." 5. Read the License agreement, select "Yes" and click on "Next." 6. Select the checkbox "I want my data to reside in a different location." 7. Browse for the location where you want your data to reside. Note that your data will reside below the directory you select in a directory called Pro99t07, Data9907, or something similar. If you are mapping to a directory that already exists you might see the informative alert that you see below. Click on "Yes," click on "OK" and click on "Next." HELPFUL HINT: WRITE DOWN WHERE YOU CHOOSE TO PUT YOUR DATA IF YOU INTEND TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE ON ANOTHER MACHINE WHICH WILL ACCESS THIS DATA! 8. If data from a prior year's installation is available then select your roll-forward option(s) and click next. Roll forward allows you to bring data from previous years into the new software. If you will be importing your data, then you do not need to roll forward your recipient data. Please note that rolling forward does not bring forward any of the financial information from the previous year. If you are connecting to a directory with current-year data that is already in place, then the roll forward will not take place so as to preserve your existing data.. 9. Click on "Next." 10. Click on "Next "and wait for it to finish installing. 11. Uncheck the box if you do not want to view the help file and click on "Finish." Part Two, Multiple Single Installs, Accessing Same Data: To set up multiple Single User installs of 1099 Pro/1042-S/W2-Pro which will allow a single user to access the same data from different computers, you will follow the process above for each computer from which you need to access the data. We highly recommend that the computer where the data resides be available as a "mapped drive." When you get to step 7, you will select the same data location for each installation. You will get an informative alert. When you are done, you should be able to access the data from one computer at a time. If you open the software while the software is already running on a different computer, you will get an error telling you that the software is already running on another computer.

Letters or Fonts display poorly on flat panel monitors

I found the solution to our screen display problems involving administrator popups or wizards from the 1099 Pro software on our flat panel displays. You may recall that some letters would display poorly on our flat panel monitors with 1099-Pro, but not with our other programs. (We do not have this problem with our CRTs). The solution is to change the "smooth edges of screen fonts" from ClearType to Standard, or uncheck it altogether. This can be done under Display Properties, Appearance Tab, Effects button.


Logos don't print on my 1099 Form

Q. You have a new .wmf file in your Resources folder and you can see the logo when you preview it on the screen but it doesn't print. A. First make sure your printer is not set to a PDF type printer. B. Second - update the drivers of the printer that is your default printer in 1099 Pro This should solve the problem.


What is the difference between electronic filing and magnetic media?

Customers can submit files to the IRS on magnetic media or transmit a file electronically to the IRS' bulletin board system. 1099 Pro, Inc. encourages electronic filing because there is no risk of your media getting lost or damaged in the mail. 1099 Pro 2004 through current year and Enterprise Edition includes magnetic media/electronic filing capabilities. The Enterprise Edition and Professional also include an Upload feature if you prefer to transmit your data to our Service Bureau where we will process it and submit it to the IRS on your behalf.


When I try to do a Web Update, I get told to go to a web site.

This error is to be expected. It simply means that we have taken the update off of our server. You should start by closing all 1099 PRO software. To get the update, simply follow the link below, select your tax year and product, and go to the Webupdate directory. Download the file with the name similar to "PatchPro(software name)Gold.exe" making sure to save it to your desktop. http://host.1099pro.com/ftp/product/ Run the file that you just downloaded which will install the update on your computer. When the update completes, your software should be updated and run properly.


When I view my form, all of the box information is out of alignment. What do I do?

Where are the Data and Backup Data folders stored?

If you open your software and go to Help and About in the menu bar, a screen will display with information about your software. Click on the 1099 Pro icon in the upper left corner, A screen display showing you where the software is installed. Your data is stored at the location displayed under Global Data Path.
